New "British Option":

As of April 2010, we are offering the "British" option on the overdrive (Wild) channel on new production units at a $100 upcharge. This option replaces the tone control with a 6 position clicker switch, and adds a global cut control. These changes are based on work being done on the upcoming "Black Tooth" model, which is an all out rock'n'roll amp.

With the British Option, the result is a "Wild" channel that's more focused sounding with a definitive British vibe vs the more "tweedy" (albeit GAINY tweed!) tone of the standard Wild channel.

With the flexible gain controls, 6 position clicker, crunch control, and cut control it's easy to dial up an incredible range of tones ranging from classic vintage Plexi to hotrodded Marshall tones. This mod will even produce the EVH brown tone nicely by engaging the crunch, opening up the gain controls and dialing the cut. With the British Option, the Superbug has a different range of tonal options.

Note that this voicing is quite forward in the midrange, so be aware, if you're looking for scoopy mids, this is NOT the option for you!

Stay tuned for a demo of the new Wild channel. Earlier units can be retrofitted. Please contact us for pricing and details.

The Super Bug was born from requests to make the popular June Bug "giggable".

So, not to dissappoint, we set out to satisfy that request, and what we came up with was a kicking grab-n-go beast with footswitchable channel switching, independent volume and tone controls for each channel, the same great overdrive controls found on the Junebug. This great preamp driving a more powerful output section that can deliver 15 watts with 6V6's or upwards of 30 watts with 6L6's, EL34's, KT66s, etc. (yep, it can run all of these!). All this in a package that weighs around 30lb.

Another great feature on the Superbur is the "Nite Lite" (we named it first!), which is the result of a unlikely discovery I made tweaking the prototype one day. This is too cool not to include it.

It's called the "Nite Lite" (thanks Jon for coming up with the cool name!).It's is a switch with LED that puts the wild channel into "bedroom mode". Let the preamp rage with all the harmonics intact, but with very fine control of the volume control giving incredibly gradual taper on the volume pot make it easy to dial up bedroom levels all the way down to whisper volumes.

It's not an attenuator so it doesn't wear out the power tubes, and it's not power scaling, so no futzing around with the power supply, and best of all, it's included at NO EXTRA CHARGE!

The Superbug represents one of the finest grab-n-go gigging machines available, and an exceptional value.

HEADROOM OPTION

For those of you who need that extra volume and punch, we offer the High Headroom option for the Superbug. It uses larger transformers to give it that extra headroom and volume needed for louder settings. See our Pricing page for pricing. (NOTE: 6V6's not supported with Headroom Option)

Specifications:

  • Power Tubes: 2 x EL34's. Can also run 6V6's, 6L6's, KT66's, and most any other octal based tube of 25 watts each or less. NOTE: 6V6's not supported with Headroom Option.
  • Switchable Output transformer primary impedence (for switching to appropriate impedence for 6V6's or higher power tubes)
  • Preamp Tubes: 3 x 12ax7/ECC83
  • Controls:
    • Mild channel: Volume with pull bright, Tone, global cut
    • Wild Channel:

STANDARD:Sweet Gain, Hot Gain, Crunch, Volume, Tone (treble roll off), Nite Lite

BRITISH OPTION: Sweet Gain, Hot Gain, Crunch, Volume, Tone (6 position clicker), Nite Lite, global cut

  • Channel switching footswitch jack
  • Weight and Dimensions: 32lb, 21" x 18" x 10&11" (slant front)

IMPORTANT NOTE: It is critical that the selector switch for the output transformer impedence is set correctly for the tubes being used. If the switch is set to "6V6" while running more powerful tubes, damage to the output transformer could occur.
